Overview
Katharsis (Greek for purification or cleansing) is an enterprise-grade debloating tool for WordPress. Unlike superficial alternatives that merely hide elements using CSS, Katharsis hooks deep into WordPress core to unregister endpoints, dequeue scripts, and strip database-bloating features entirely at the source.
Architectural Rationale:
Many popular "debloating" plugins merely inject CSS rules like display: none to conceal dashboard elements and frontend widgets, leaving server execution time, database queries, and attack surfaces untouched. Katharsis works exclusively at the PHP core level, unregistering post types, rewriting rules, dequeuing scripts, and securing APIs before execution begins.
Developer Integration
// wp-config.php: Lock Katharsis settings network-wide
define('KATHARSIS_DISABLE_BLOG', true);
define('KATHARSIS_DISABLE_COMMENTS', true);
define('KATHARSIS_DISABLE_XMLRPC', true);
WP-CLI: $ wp katharsis scrub-database --revisions --transients
Deployment Notes
Ideal for headless WordPress setups, corporate brochure sites, and custom web applications where the default blogging engine is redundant.
