Overview
Eidolon (Greek for image, phantom, or apparition) is a highly performant, zero-bloat WordPress plugin designed to help achieve compliance with the EU AI Act by transparently labeling AI-generated and AI-modified images. Under the EU AI Act (mandatory transparency obligations effective August 2, 2026, Article 50), publishers are legally required to visibly disclose AI-generated or altered media. Eidolon conforms precisely to European Commission recommendations.
Architectural Rationale:
Under Article 50 of the European Union Artificial Intelligence Act (effective August 2, 2026), publishers face severe financial penalties if photorealistic synthetic or modified images are published without visible, accessible transparency markers. Eidolon inspects images upon upload for cryptographic C2PA and metadata signatures, rendering standardized plain-language disclosure badges without modifying the underlying files.
Developer Integration
# WP-CLI: Batch scan entire media library
$ wp eidolon scan --all --limit=500
// PHP Filter: Custom badge template
add_filter('eidolon_badge_html', function($html, $status, $post_id) {
return '<span class="custom-ai-badge">' . esc_html($status) . '</span>';
}, 10, 3);
WP-CLI: $ wp eidolon scan --all --limit=200
Deployment Notes
Theme developers can easily style .eidolon-badge, .eidolon-badge-icon, and .eidolon-badge-text via standard CSS. Custom signatures can be appended using the eidolon_generated_footprints filter.
