Overview
Archeio (Greek for archive or file repository) transforms the chaotic default WordPress Media Grid into a beautifully organized file system. Built entirely on top of native WordPress taxonomies (archeio_folder), it creates zero custom database tables, guaranteeing seamless compatibility with core updates, backup tools, and migrations.
Architectural Rationale:
Commercial WordPress media folder plugins create proprietary SQL tables, slow down media modals with unindexed join queries, and create vendor lock-in. If you uninstall them, all media categorization is destroyed. Archeio relies 100% on native WordPress taxonomies (archeio_folder), ensuring instantaneous queries, full backup safety, and zero database lock-in.
Developer Integration
// Archeio uses native WP_Query taxonomy querying:
$query = new WP_Query([
'post_type' => 'attachment',
'post_status' => 'inherit',
'tax_query' => [[
'taxonomy' => 'archeio_folder',
'field' => 'slug',
'terms' => 'client-brand-assets',
]],
]);
WP-CLI: $ wp archeio create-folder "Brand Assets" --parent=0
Deployment Notes
Includes a custom Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) field type "Archeio Media Folder" allowing editors to select organized folders in options pages or custom post types.
